There are far reaching concerns about the conduct of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service

In this new blog I hope to explore some of the serious concerns that I have about Scotland's prosecutorial service - the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service. My concerns go wider than simply the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) itself since COPFS can direct Police Scotland as to which suspected crimes should be investigated. Inevitably, in trying to express my concerns about COPFS and about Police Scotland, I will be attempting to explore very deep legal waters. In all likelihood I won't succeed in expressing my concerns perfectly. At least not at my first attempt. But I hope that I will express my concerns with sufficient clarity and congency that a general reader will appreciate that there are serious questions to be asked and answered. If I succeed in expressing my concerns well I hope that at least some Scottish lawyers will also come to agree that there are serious problems at the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.
